It is January and the Sinulog-Santo Niño Festival is upon us on the third Sunday of January in Cebu City. The street parade will take place of 15th January.

The festival sees revelries organized by the Santo Nino Catholic organizers. While the entire nation celebrates it, the one in Cebu City has the largest and the most impressive parade.

The grand street parade is a daylong affair with active participation from the Visayas, Luzon and Mindanao regions. It is the most famous engagement and draws huge crowds of spectators.

This time around, the good news is that participants from the Miss Universe pageant will grace the occasion. The beauty queens will make an appearance in the Jan 15 parade.

They will ride on the Okada Manila float according to the Executive Director of Sinulog, Ricky Ballesteros. Okada Manila is the Filipino residence of the Miss Universe participants.

The feast of the Holy Child Jesus, a 10-day event ends with the grand parade. The hotel’s employees filled up the form to obtain permission for them to join the parade, he said.

The Sinulog Foundation controls the celebrations and the parade. However, the exact details of their participation were unclear. The final picture would only emerge when the participants arrived and the parade got underway, Ballesteros said.

In addition, the participants may not want to tire themselves out because the swimwear round is likely after two days. Consequently, some or all of them might choose to travel on the float for a limited time.

They may even choose to stay back in the grandstand and be mere spectators. The swimwear competition will take place at the J Park Hotel in Lapu-Lapu City.

The participants need to rest since there are other public engagements on Jan 17. A fully sold out fashion show and a party also form part of the celebrations.
