Whether it is the Trump effect or routine military operations, the Mother of all bombs shook the whole world yesterday. But, the physical impact took place in Achin district in Nangarhar province as informed by, US Forces Afghanistan.

Called GBU-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast bomb (MOAB) it is the largest non-nuclear bomb ever deployed in any war. Aimed at a network of tunnels constructed by the Islamic State, the bomb struck at 07:32 PM (1502 GMT).

The jubilant United States President classified the first use in combat as very, very successful. The massive bomb has a blast impact equal to 11 Tons of TNT; a transport plane dropped it. The MC-130 transport plane hit the Momand Dara Area according to Esmail Shinwari, Governor of Achin District.

Experts opine that the function of this giant is to intimidate as well as to clear large areas. No other combat has seen the deployment of this bomb which is biggest of all others used.

Shinwari described the tower of flames that rose from the bomb saying that it was the biggest he had seen. He could not estimate the number of casualties but guessed that many Daesh perished possibly.

Daesh is the name that the locals use to refer to the Islamic State fighters. US Forces Afghanistan is carrying out the task of assessment. US Navy Captain Bill Salvin, spokesman for US Forces Afghanistan revealed this via email.

However, Salvin elaborated on the steps taken to ensure that civilian casualties remained at the minimum.

Consequently, a recce was conducted through the agency of friendly countries to assess the civilian presence in the area.

The scouting forces reported the near absence of civilians in the area. Therefore, the US army chose this target to maximize the effect while ensuring the least number of civilian deaths.

Thus, the United States has taken the war against the jihadists to a whole new level. Thus, the US deployed a potent and appropriate weapon in the war against Islamic State.

General John Nicholson, who heads US Forces Afghanistan, stated that they could now maintain the right momentum in the region.

The network of tunnels and caves was the route for the IS fighters to target US and Afghan forces. Thus, Islamic State could strike effectively while remaining concealed White House spokesman Sean Spicer said.

They are able to move around freely and attack; we will curb this henceforth, Spicer stated. Furthermore, Presidential spokesman Shah Hussain Murtazawi informed that the US had intimated the Afghan government about the impending attack well in advance.

He made it public in the social media while denying the possibility of civilian casualties in the bombing. Murtazawi wrote on his Facebook page that the enemy suffered heavy casualties.

Nangarhar, on the border with Pakistan, is a hotbed teeming IS militants. The IS had killed an American soldier, during operations in Nangarhar earlier this week.

The US is indulging in air strikes in Nangahar since last year to keep IS under check. Islamic State has started mushrooming into Afghanistan after spreading terror in Iraq and Syria.

Recruitments of rebels from Uzbek Islamists and Talibani forces from Pakistan and Afghanistan in recent times have reinforced IS.

However, the US forces have driven them back constantly leading to severe reverses. The US Air force and the Afghan Army have constantly been mounting attacks to control their expansion.

Only last year, IS had more than 3000 active fighters but their rank have depleted to about 700 now. The NATO forces eliminated 12 top commanders in the past year alone.

The MOAB was fast-tracked around when the western alliance led by United States attacked Iraq. Eyewitnesses state that, tested last time in 2003, sent a mushroom cloud up in the sky. It was so large that people could see it 32Km (20 miles) away.

However, the MOAB is nothing compared to the power of a nuclear bomb. Informed sources revealed that even the smallest weapon in use is much more destructive.

The B-61, the smallest in the US inventory, is 30 times more powerful than the MOAB.
