Entertainment: Jaclyn Jose – Best actress at Cannes 2016

Jaclyn Jose

The glitterati of the tinsel town were all there in their awards-night best; the Cannes film festival this year had been the same as in yesteryears, flashy, majestic, glamorous and a display of emotions ranging from happiness and exhilaration to sadness and reflective.

The 69th edition of the Cannes film festival was almost coming to an end and actress Jaclyn Jose stood with happiness since her daughter, who is also an actress, Andi Eigenmann was also there with her.

Imagine the range of emotions that surged through her heart and visage when it was suddenly announced that she was the winner of the prestigious award for the best actress. The Filipina actress was in an emotional state when she won the award for her stellar role as a drug pusher for the film entitled Ma’ Rosa, a film by the amazing Brillante Mendoza.

When receiving the coveted award to the thunderous applause of the crowd that included some of the best known names in the film industry, she expressed her speechlessness and emotional shock while thanking first the jury and the brilliant Director who she attributed the success to.

It was some lovely news for the early morning public in Manila who were just gearing up for starting a new week since it was Monday.

She was just espousing the brilliance of the Director Brillante Mendoza whom she called a genius; she also had a word for her compatriots back home for whom she had a salute. In the round of interviews that followed, she revealed that she did not expect anything at Cannes even though the whole event was a celebration of great significance since she was here again with her beautiful daughter.

It may be mentioned here that the daughter too had co-starred with her mother in the same role as in real life, that of her daughter.

That she would one day be back in Cannes with her daughter had been a dream that she had for a long time; she thus became the first Filipina to grab the prestigious award in Cannes which is one of the top film festivals in the world, maybe next only to the Oscars.

What made her victory doubly sweet was that she had come up trumps even though her competitors included some of the best names in the field.
