SPORTS: PH in the group of death

Philippines Sports Stadium in Bocaue, Bulacan.

This year’s episode of the Suzuki Cup is scheduled to be played from the 19th of November 2016; the venue is the Philippines Sports Stadium in Bocaue, Bulacan.

The tournament is being co-hosted by the Philippines and Myanmar and will be conducted between November 19th and December 17th.

This time around, the Asian Football Federation conducted the draws for the region in Myanmar where the Azkals managed to land in what is being called the group of death.

The group consists of the following four teams:

  1. The Azkals: The Filipino team that will be hosting the first match, they have been making it to the semi-finals in the last three episodes of the Suzuki cup that were conducted during 2010, 2012 and 2014. This time around, it is not possible to tell as to what the final positions will emerge after the ties are over,
  2. The Indonesians: The Indonesian Team had been banned in June 2014 since there was an ongoing dispute between the National Football Association of Indone3sia and the Indonesian Sports Ministry over who was running the game of football in the country. As a result of that the Indonesians lost out from the Asian qualification rounds of the Asian Cup for 2019 as well as for the World Cup to be held in 2018.

The reason was the interference of the government body as was also seen in the case of Benin and Kuwait who were also handed similar sentences but are yet to be resolved; in the case of Indonesia, the government had given an undertaking to lift an order that was unacceptable to the World governing body FIFA.

They are now making a comeback after nearly two years of isolation; this football powerhouse will be rearing to make a big bang in their return tourney; the big news is that the Indonesians have sent feelers for recruiting Jose Mourinho for the post of coach for their team. The FIFA ranking of Indonesia is 185.

  1. Singapore: this is another football powerhouse nation that has been a force to reckon with; it has won the Suzuki cup four times, and

  1. Thailand: Another amazing soccer powerhouse which too has won the Suzuki Cup four times.

With that, the lineup for the Group   A is complete.
