The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Central Office Disaster Information Coordinating Center (CODIX) on Saturday released a list of areas which may be hit by tropical storm ”Nona.”
On its Facebook account, the DILG CODIX showed the forecast track of Nona (international name: “Melor”) and the areas at risk of experiencing the effects of the storm.
In Bicol, Monday classes have already been suspended for all levels.
It raised an alert over the following areas, which are within the 300-kilometer diameter of the forecast track of the storm:
- Camarines Norte,
- Camarines Sur,
- Eastern Samar,
- Metropolitan Manila,
- Northern Samar,
- Occidental Mindoro,
- Oriental Mindoro,
The DILG CODIX also gave a list of provinces within the 50-kilometer radius from the forecast track expected to experience moderate to heavy rainfall.
These are: Bataan, Masbate, Metro Manila, Rizal, Romblon, Sorsogon, Albay, Batangas, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Cavite, Laguna, Marinduque, Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, and Quezon.
Due to severe winds, storm surges of about 3 to 4 meters high over coastal areas may also occur, it added.
Nona, which was spotted 1,025 kilometers east of Maasin, Southern Leyte at 10 a.m. Saturday, was packing maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour (kph) with gusts of up to 80 kph.
Moving west northwest at 17 kph, it is expected to make landfall in the Bicol region on Tuesday, state weather bureau PAGASA said.
